There is a choice of bolted or QR clamp when you order a VIRSA [not included in frameset price].

tripster set for some serious mileage!

posted on 5th May - 10:51am

'Readers bikes' will be up soon, and I'll post the full spec on the bike, but I had to run a story on this one. Duncan mailed me a while ago about a Crosslight frame for a mate and mentioned that he had a Crosslight that he did some serious mileage on, he also told me what his IDEAL commute bike would be and I told him to watch this space!!

Now Duncan has his bike built up and here's what he has to say...

"This bike is replacing a Crosslight frame that I've been using for the commute for the last 4.5 years. It's done almost 30,000 miles now, and I've been very happy with it. In fact I was talking to Kinesis:UK regarding a new crosslight frame I was recommending for someone at work, and I mused about what would be really good to see in a perfect commuter frame before I looked to retire my Crosslight. I'd always been a little unhappy with the brakes (initially avid v brakes, but then froglegs and ceramic pads), so I wanted disk mounts that wouldn't then get in the way of a pannier rack, be able to run 700 wheels and not too lightweight as I wanted it to last. Within seconds the response came back that I may want to keep an eye out this spring....."

Here's the Tripster set for the big commute, with the trusty old 30,000 mile Crosslight!

More in 'Readers Bikes' soon.

June MBUK hit my desk today and on P.33 is a 'First Ride' review for the Prestige tubed, VIRTUE [Now called VIRSA].

The review is very good and definately worth a read if you are considering building one up.

They summed it up as "A great hard riding XC frame at a great price with the added benefit of single speed or geared compatibility".

jimmy gets fixed

posted on 28th April - 11:05am

Our DMR rider Jimmy was in today getting his DMR dirt jump rig sorted with new wheel and crank. While his bike was down he jumped on a CONVERT2 for his first fixed gear experience!

You can judge by his expression how things were going!

This guy is the smoothest and most flowing rider that I know...but bikes are always ready to give you a new riding experience!!

Chris from Tredz Bike Shop in Swansea recently built himself a very nice Virtue SS, and then promptly crashed [riding another bike I must add!] breaking his shoulder blade..yowch!!

Whilst recovering, he has started a DECADE owners club on facebook here. It's early days yet, but join up to share your views, stories and maybe organise some ride time.

Cheers Chris, get well soon.

frame graphics story

posted on 20th April - 11:15am

A few people have mailed to ask about the striking graphics on our new DECADE range.

They are all hand drawn by UK artist Adi Gilbert, who interpreted my idea's for the look and feel of each frame.

The 'VIRSA' [was VIRTUE] one represents the strength of nature and is supposed to remind us how small we are in comparison. It's also a bit 'Autumny', one of the best riding times for getting out on the SS MTB!

The 'Convert2' graphic is about riders rising up against pollution and wastage, it also signifies fighting back, which is why it is the Stephen Murray T.

The 'Tripster' graphic is a little more simple, it's the riders eye view of a fast ride between the everyday moving obstacles.

That's about it.

Liam from our warehouse knows how to build a bike! Super sicko and unique Virtue, with one off Chrome rims, built for spicing up the commute!

tripster for testing

posted on 17th April - 13:20pm

We've just built up a Tripster to do the rounds of the Magazines and Websites. It's a 51cm in Aqua Blue, built with drops and tough, deep section Velocity rims + Avid discs for stoppers. It will have some brand new Vittoria 'CrossXN Pro' 33c tyres on it too [not fitted in the pic], larger tyres are ideal for puncture resistant on/off road commutes and there is masses of clearance on the frame and fork.

It's going to Tony at roadCC first, so keep a look out for the test soon.

Have a sneak peek at it here.

'virtue' turns into 'virsa'!

posted on 14th April - 11:27am

OK. So I thought of this great name for our Prestige tubed MTB frame...'VIRTUE', it summed up the feeling of the frame perfectly + worked nicely with the graphics. Then FELT got on the phone to me to kindly remind me that they have a suspension range called VIRTUE. Arrrrggghhh!! The first 50 frames were already on the way! So if you have one of the first 50, with the LTD 10yr. decal, then you have a REAL rarity!! Keep it and get it on eBay in 5yrs time.

The next name was simply 'Prestige'. Obvious I know. But of course, Orange use this one! [we didn't make any frames with this name on!!]

So now it is 'VIRSA'. This hints at the way the Swopout system works [Vice Versa] and also works sweetly with the font I used for the graphics!

So, there you go. Done. No more changes.

[Anyone got a bike frame called Virsa??....]
